I've been on my 'Bucha game lately. Why? Because it's so damn good for you. And, it tastes so damn good, too.
(Which is hard to come by in our world of so-good-but-so-bad-for-you foods).
For those new to 'Bucha, here's the lowdown..
Kombucha is made from sweetened tea that's fermented by a colony of bacteria and yeast (or Scoby, a.k.a "mother", because of its ability to reproduce). Although 'Bucha did not gain its popularity in the United States until the 1990s, it has been fighting and preventing cancer, arthritis, menstrual cramps, constipation, and other diseases/ailments for over 2,000 years.
Impressive, right? The ancient Chinese thought so.. that's why they called it the "immortal Health Elixir".
If you have time, definitely read up on Kombucha's impressive history.
But now to wow you with its powerful healing benefits..
Detox. Detox. Detox.
Kombucha is rich in enzymes and bacterial acids. These are key components in detoxifying your body, which in turn, reduces your pancreatic load.
'Bucha also contains glucosamines - a preventative and treatment for all forms of arthritis. These glucosamines aid preservation of cartilage structure and prevent arthritic pain by increasing your synovial hyaluronic acid production. Which we owe to our bones seeing as they help us do so many things each day. H.A.P. also reduces wrinkles and other age-causing skin damage.
(Hello beautiful skin at forty-five)
Last, Kombucha is packed with the probiotics - which are vital in keeping our digestion system in check.
Digestion in check = weight in check
These helpful probiotics also aid in mental clarity and mood stability.
And who doesn't want that with all the stress in our daily lives?
Three weeks ago I made the decision to trade in (most) of my coffee habits for a glass of Kombucha and it has made one hell of a difference. My 2 o'clock slump is slowly diminishing and I've even noticed a difference in the way my body digests food.
Bottom line is.. go out and try a cup of Kombucha. It's available at any of your local health food stores OR I have a dear friend that ferments it for an awesome price of $6/quart. (Which gives you more bang for your buck compared to health food store prices // Hit me up for her number)
There are many flavors and brands out there, but you have to be careful as to what type of sugar it is sweetened with. My personal go-to (if I run out of Callie's) is GT's Synergy Gingerade.
Get on your 'Bucha game, y'all, because Y.O.L.O.
Let's make it a healthy one.
